Registering your presence in Latvia

If you are an American citizen residing permanently in Latvia or visiting Latvia for more than a brief visit, it is advisable to register with the U.S. Embassy in Riga. Registration with the Embassy makes your presence and whereabouts known. It allows us to replace your passport quickly if it is lost or stolen, and contact you in case the Embassy or your relatives need to pass you an emergency message.

To make this registration easier, the Department of State launched a secure online travel registration website which allows you, as a U.S. citizen, to record your foreign travel and/or residence information. U.S. citizens around the world who travel or reside abroad can access this website at https://travelregistration.state.gov. We would like to invite you to register yourself and your family and get acquainted with travel registration.

The new Internet travel registration service for U.S. citizens allows you to register and update your contact information on the Internet at any time, making it easier for you to keep your information current.  The site also provides you with up-to-date travel information customized to your unique travel agenda and itinerary.  The data you provide is secured with Department of State firewalls, accessed only by cleared personnel in Embassies, Consulates, and the Department of State, and releasable only under the provisions of the Privacy Act.

If you encounter any difficulties or have any questions about our travel registration website, please send an e-mail to CAIbrs@state.gov.

You may also register with the U.S. Embassy in Riga by sending us an e-mail to AskConsular@USRiga.lv, by calling us at +371 6703 6200, or visiting the Embassy personally.
