Ambassador Garber Celebrates First Day of School and Supports English-Language Studies

Ambassador Judith G. Garber helped Latvian student ring in the first day of their new school year, participating in the opening-day festivities at Riga Gymnasium No. 3.

Ambassador Garber joined the school’s principal, the Riga City Mayor and a former rector of the University of Latvia in celebrating the recent renovation of the school’s facilities, and in congratulating the school body for becoming one of the highest-ranked in the country.

In her remarks to the assembly, Ambassador Garber noted the energy and enthusiasm of the students and urged them to carry this excitement with them throughout their studies.  She also expressed hope that the students would explore opportunities to pursue higher education programs in the United States.

To support the school’s English-language program, PAS donated over 100 books, ranging from novels to non-fiction books on U.S. history, geography and sports.   The collection was carefully selected for young readers learning English as a second language.
