U.S. Embassy Announces Anti-Corruption Grants Program Competition
Riga, September 1, 2009 – The U.S. Embassy in Latvia announces the opening of a Grants Program Competition aimed at supporting Latvia’s anti-corruption measures and deepening mutual cooperation between the United States and Latvia. Beginning Tuesday, September 1, the Embassy welcomes proposals from local NGO’s, academic institutions and other non-profit organizations for projects aimed at reducing corruption and strengthening the rule of law in Latvia. Project proposals may be for grants of up to $15,000.
Projects raising public awareness of the necessity of transparency and citizens’ rights to demand transparency, as well as educational campaigns, would be of particular interest. Examples of successful project proposals might include educational outreach, video campaigns, training for company leaders in oversight and whistleblower protection, special programs for schools and universities, and awareness measures aimed at Latvian youth.
Organizations and individuals may submit one or more proposals for the program. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 14, 2009. We strongly encourage applicants to submit proposals early, to allow for adjustments, as needed. The application should be in English and may be submitted by e-mail to bruvelel@state.gov, with the words "Proposal for Anti-Corruption Grant" in the subject line.
