U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Dr. Philip Gordon visits Latvia

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Dr. Philip H. Gordon visited Riga on August 12.  During his visit, Dr. Gordon met with Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins. Their discussions, which were positive and constructive, covered a range of bilateral and regional issues.

This was Dr. Gordon’s first visit to Latvia. He took office as Assistant Secretary on May 15, 2009.  Before joining the State Department, he was a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he focused on European and U.S. foreign policy issues. Prior to joining Brookings, Dr. Gordon served as Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council under President Bill Clinton.
