U.S. donates equipment to the Latvian Border Guard
Riga, June 6, 2006. – On Wednesday, June 7 Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy Phillip Antweiler will donate approximately $77, 500 worth of equipment to the Latvian State Border Guard and National Customs Board at the Headquarters of the State Border Guard in Riga.
The equipment includes two Yamaha Rhino 660 “side by side” ATVs (all terrain vehicles), ten Rigel Optics Night Vision Goggles, one Contraband Team Inspection Kit and one Pass (product acoustic signature system) Handheld Unit.
The equipment is being donated under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State coordinated Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS ) Program and the U.S. Embassy, Riga. The Latvian State Border Guard and National Customs Board are valued partners with the United States in efforts to stop the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and to enforce export controls. This equipment will further enhance the State Border Guard and National Customs Board’s continued enforcement effectiveness on the Latvian border.
