Military exercise Shamrock Key concludes
Riga, April 28, 2006. -- The joint NATO military training exercise “Shamrock Key”, which was designed to increase participants’ responsiveness to terrorist threats within each country and across national borders, concluded successfully last night according to United States Ambassador Catherine Todd Bailey. During the exercise, military forces from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Norway, and the United States worked together to further enhance each others’ capabilities in fighting threats from terrorism.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Ambassador Bailey was briefed by Maj.Gen. Thomas R. Csrnko, Commander of US Special Operations Command Europe (Airborne), and the Ambassador expressed her appreciation to all those who participated in the planning and execution of this exercise. Ambassador Bailey said, “Terrorism knows no borders, and we must all remain consistently vigilant if we are to end the threat of terrorism both at home and abroad. Training with our partners is the best way to ensure and guarantee that all of our countries are secure.”
“Shamrock Key” is an annual event, and planning for this particular exercise started more than one year ago. This year the exercise lasted two weeks, and many NATO Alliance partner nations participated either directly or indirectly in advisory roles.
