U.S. Ambassador discusses cooperation with Latvian Defense minister

Riga, April 20, 2006. – U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Catherine Todd Bailey together with U.S. Defense Attaché Leigh Sumner paid a courtesy visit to newly appointed Latvian Defense minister Atis Slakteris today.

The Ambassador and minister discussed issues of mutual interest and agreed to ongoing strong cooperation in defense and foreign policy matters between the United States and Latvia.

Ambassador Bailey recognizes and appreciates the continuity of Latvia’s defense policy, following recent changes at the ministry. The Ambassador looks forward to working with the new minister, as Latvia prepares for the NATO summit in Riga this fall.
