US Ambassador Offers Condolences for Virginia Tech Shootings

Riga, April 17, 2007. – On April 16, Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia, witnessed the deadliest mass murder on a college campus in U.S. history. Over 30 students and teachers were killed and dozens were wounded.

President George W. Bush, in a statement to the American people, said, "Today our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech. We hold them in our hearts. The mass shootings at Virginia Tech affect every student across our nation."

The United States Ambassador to Latvia Catherine Todd Bailey offered her condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Ambassador Bailey commented, "Today and in the days following our nation mourns along with the victims’ families and fellow students at Virginia Tech. Due to these senseless acts a sanctuary of learning was violated yesterday."
