U.S. Ambassador will visit Jelgava

Riga, April 4, 2006. U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Catherine Todd Bailey will pay her first official visit to Jelgava on Wednesday, April 5. While there she will meet with Jelgava city officials and representatives of the University of Agriculture. She will also visit the Jelgava Cultural Center and the Jelgava Palace Museum.

During her meeting with the Mayor of Jelgava Andris Rāviņš and Jelgava City council members, the Ambassador plans to discuss social integration and economic growth in the area. Afterwards the Ambassador will visit the Jelgava Cultural Center and see the newly renovated concert hall.

At the Latvia University of Agriculture the Ambassador will meet Rector Juris Skujāns, and review the progress of the U.S. government funded project, “Enhancing Agricultural Biotechnology at Latvia University of Agriculture.”

Ambassador Bailey will end her visit with a tour of the Jelgava palace museum.

This visit to Jelgava is a part of Ambassador Bailey’s outreach program. One of Ambassador Bailey’s goals upon arrival in Latvia was to “explore and see every inch of Latvia,” and since then she has traveled to many Latvian cities and towns, including them Liepāja, Daugavpils, Valmiera, Auce and Sigulda.
