U.S.-Latvia Bilateral Exchange of Best Practices in Port Development Taking Place this Week
Riga, March 13, 2006. -- A group of experts from the United States will meet with officials from the Riga Free Port and the Riga city and Latvian governments this week, as part of a bilateral exchange to examine best practices in port development and to explore opportunities for economic development and investment. The group includes representatives of the U.S. Trade Development Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as the private sector.
The U.S. group will hold discussions and explore best practices with their Latvian counterparts, focusing on all aspects of economic development, port operations and management, trade expansion, infrastructure development and customs procedures.
While in Latvia, the delegation will meet with Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis, Riga Mayor Aivars Aksenoks, Riga Free Port Chief Executive Officer Leonids Loginovs and other Latvian officials.
