U.S. Congress Delegation Visits Latvia to Discuss Cooperation in Agriculture

Riga, February 22, 2006. -- A delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives led by Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) arrived in Riga today and will participate in meetings with Latvian officials until Friday. Other representatives on the bipartisan delegation are Representative Collin Peterson (D-MN), Representative Kenny Marchant (R-TX) and Representative Mike McIntyre (D-NC).

The main purpose of the visit is to discuss agricultural issues of interest to the United States and Latvia. Delegation leader Rep. Bob Goodlatte is chairman of the Agriculture Committee at the U.S. House of Representatives.

During their time in Latvia, the delegation will meet with President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis, Minister of Agriculture Martins Roze, Minister of Economy Krisjanis Karins and members of the Saeima Foreign Affairs and Agriculture committees.

The Congressmen will also tour Old Riga and visit the Occupation Museum to learn more about Latvian history.
