U.S. Ambassador to Latvia will meet Latvian soldiers who have served in Iraq

Riga, January 23, 2007. - Today, the United States Ambassador, Catherine Todd Bailey will speak with soldiers from the Latvian contingent that recently returned from Iraq. The Ambassador will express her appreciation for the soldiers' service in the international coalition in Iraq and would like to hear first-hand about their time in Iraq. Also tonight, U.S. President George Bush will give his State of the Union address to the American Congress, outlining America's way forward in Iraq.

Ambassador Bailey said, "It is an honor and privilege to meet the Latvian soldiers who have done so much for their country and for Latvia's allies in fighting the global war on terrorism. We can all be proud of their sacrifice and service to their country."

The visit will occur at the Adazi military base prior to an award ceremony to honor Latvian service personnel who have served in Iraq. The ceremony will be led by Minister of Defense Atis Slakteris.
