Ambassador Judith Garber Arrives in Riga
Riga, August 24, 2009. - Ambassador Judith G. Garber, the new U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, arrived in Riga this morning with her husband Paul Wisgerhof and two children – Elizabeth and Ryan. Upon arrival she delivered a short statement in both Latvian and English. Ambassador Garber said she is glad to be back in Latvia and eager to explore the Latvian countryside and get to know it’s people. She emphasized that Latvia is an important U.S. ally, strategic partner and close friend and that she looks forward to continuing strong positive relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Garber was nominated to be the U.S. Ambassador in Latvia by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. She is scheduled to preset credentials to President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers on August 25, after which she will begin her official duties as U.S. Ambassador to Latvia.
