The U.S. Embassy in Latvia Extends its Condolences to the Family of Corporal Davis Baltabols and the People of Latvia

Riga, August 6, 2009. - The Embassy of the United States extends its deepest condolences to the family of Corporal Davis Baltabols, who fell fatally ill while serving in Afghanistan, and to the people of Latvia.

We express our gratitude to the Latvians serving as part of NATO’s vital mission to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.  American and Latvian soldiers are working together in this mission, which is indicative of the strong, shared commitment to our common security.  The mission to Afghanistan is NATO’s highest priority because terrorists trained there have carried out vicious attacks around the world.

We value the courage of the Latvian soldiers serving side by side with Americans in Afghanistan, and recognize the sacrifices they make in ensuring international security.  We honor Corporal Baltabols’ service and his memory.
