Embassy-donated fence makes International School of Riga a Safer Place to Learn

Riga, April 21, 2009. – On Wednesday, April 22, U.S. Charge d’Affaires Bruce Rogers will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a newly constructed built fencing at the International School of Riga.  The new fence was donated by the U.S Embassy at a cost of approximately 35 thousand lats (66 thousand U.S. dollars). The new fence will make the school’s playground a safer and friendlier place for the students to learn.

Deputy Director of the school John Crockett says: “The fence really enhances the safety of the students who use the playground and also provides a great improvement to the overall appearance of the school campus.”

During the ribbon cutting ceremony children of the school will present the keys of the school to Bruce Rogers, as a thank you for embassy’s contribution to the new fence.

The International School of Riga (ISR) was founded in 1995 with an aim to offer international education taught in English.  The school moved to its’ current location in Kipsala in 2001 and since then added a modern classroom annex including a large gymnasium.  The school serves students age toddler through sixth grade.  ISR is an International Baccalaureate World School using the Primary Years Program and is accredited by the Latvian Ministry of Education.
