US ambassador encourages Latvians to study in US

US Ambassador to Latvia, Charles Larson, Thursday encouraged Latvians to consider studying in the United States.

Larson told the Latvian students at the opening of the Education USA Day on Thursday that those who study in the US, obtain wide knowledge that can be useful in almost any country.   According to the Ambassador, English language skills and understanding of US culture is very valuable experience that can be used upon return to Latvia.

Larson said that he knew from personal experience that the US students have limited knowledge about Latvia and that this knowledge can be expanded when Latvians study in the United States.  He stressed that Latvian students perform an important diplomatic function in the US by speaking about their native country and its traditions.

According to Dagnija Ziba, the head of the Education USA center in Latvia, over 500 students from Latvia study in the US today.

The Education USA Day is organized by the Education USA Information and Testing Center to inform potential students about different aspects related to studies in the US, including the admission process, life in the campus and financial issues.
