US Government Makes $700,000 Grant for Airport Infrastructure

On Tuesday September 23, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, Charles Larson and Janis Marsans, Chairman of the Board of the State Joint-Stock Company “Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme” (LGS) signed a grant from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). The $690,170 grant will fund the development of a modernization plan to accommodate increasing flight volumes, including a comprehensive Air Traffic Control upgrade.

In remarks to assembled media representatives, Larson emphasized the importance of people-to-people contact and trade as tools of diplomacy. The grant will have a positive impact in promoting both of these tools. Through the grant, a study will be conducted to develop a plan for the modernization of Latvia’s air traffic management system.
