Ambassador Charles Larson Visits Bauska to Promote GLOBE Program

Riga, August 12, 2008. – Tomorrow, August 13, the U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Charles Larson will visit Islice’s High school to meet participants of the international GLOBE program, as well as raise awareness of the GLOBE activities in Latvia and environment protection issues in general. Ambassador Larson will meet with GLOBE program coordinator in Latvia Inese Liepina and the participants of the expedition – 34 students from schools all over Latvia.

Ambassador will observe students working in groups in atmospheric, hydrology, soil, GPS research workshops on the grounds of Islice School.

GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a worldwide community of students, teachers, scientists, and citizens working together to better understand, sustain, and improve Earth's environment at local, regional, and global scales. GLOBE’s mission is to promote the teaching and learning of science, enhance environmental literacy and stewardship, and promote scientific discovery. Latvia joined GLOBE program in 1999. Islice High school is a member of international GLOBE program.
