U.S. Ambassador Honors U.S. Servicemen Lost at Sea Near Liepaja in 1950
As part of a two-day visit to the Latvian port city of Liepaja, United States (U.S.) Ambassador to Latvia Charles Larson laid flowers by the monument to seamen and fishermen lost at sea. In his remarks at the monument, Larson honored the memory of 10 U.S. pilots that were lost at sea near Liepaja on April 8, 1950.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for the U.S. Embassy's New Chancery
The U.S. Embassy in Riga in pleased to announce that May 19 the groundbreaking ceremony for the Embassy's new building will take place in Kalnciema Street 160. The minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Riekstins and the mayor of Riga Janis Birks will participate in the ceremony and will deliver remarks.
U.S. Ambassador Visits the Historic City of Cesis
On May 16, the U.S. Ambassador Charles Larson will travel to the second oldest city of Latvia – Cesis where he will pay a courtesy call to the mayor of Cesis Gints Skenders. Ambassador will also visit Non – commissioned Officer Academy to get acquainted with the training base for the Latvian National Armed Forces (NAF). Ambassador will be accompanied by representatives from NAF: colonel Valdis Talbergs and captain Sandris Gaugers.
United States Responds to Humanitarian Disaster Caused by Cyclone Nargis
The United States completed its first humanitarian assistance flight into Burma on Monday May 12 as U.S. government officials were on the ground in Rangoon to witness the delivery of the first aid shipment. The U.S. has received verbal confirmation from the Government of Burma that it will be allowed to fly in two U.S. C-130s with relief supplies on May 13.
President Zatlers' Visit to the United States
Latvian President Valdis Zatlers paid a working visit to the U.S. from April 22-25. U.S. Ambassador Charles Larson accompanied President Zatlers during the visit.
The U.S. Plea Bargaining Team in Riga
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that a legal team from the U.S. will begin a four day working visit to Riga to discuss the concept and procedure of “plea bargaining” and its use in judicial systems. The U.S. experts will meet with Latvian judicial counterparts, government and NGO representatives and the press and media.

American Author, Pauls Toutonghi, Shares Stories With Latvian Audiences
During a week-long a series of events, author Pauls Toutonghi spoke to writers, students, and academics, and read from his novel "Red Weather". Toutonghi, a professor of English at Lewis and Clark College, shared insights into the process of writing a novel.
