Latvian Screening of “The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler”

"The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler," a television movie filmed entirely in Riga last fall, was screened on Thursday, October 1, at the Riga Congress Hall.  Director John Kent Harrison and producer Jeff Most were present at the screening, along with other prominent guests.

The film portrays the life of a young Polish woman credited with saving the lives of thousands of Jewish children during World War II.  It was shown on network television in the United States on Mother’s day this year.  This movie is one of the first major U.S. productions filmed in Latvia.

"The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler" stars two Academy Award winners – Anna Paquin and Marcia Gay Harden.  The screenplay, based on Anna Mieszkowska’s book "Mother of the Children of the Holocaust: The Irena Sendler Story," was directed by John Kent Harrisson and produced by Brent Shields and Jeff Most.
