American Diplomatic representatives in Latvia

The U.S. Embassy in Riga has unveiled portraits of American Diplomatic representatives.

In the opening ceremony Charge’ d’Affairs Bruce Rogers said:

For many years, portraits of the American Ambassadors who served in Latvia since 1991, have hung in the Embassy.  Today, we are here to officially unveil the portraits of those envoys who served from 1922 – 1940. The thing that connects these two groups of diplomats is former Under Secretary of State Sumner Wells’ statement of non-recognition of the Soviet Occupation.  So, although there was a period of time without American diplomatic representation in Riga, the people of the United States never broke faith with the people of Latvia.
