U.S. Ambassador Honors U.S. Servicemen Lost at Sea Near Liepaja in 1950

As part of a two-day visit to the Latvian port city of Liepaja, United States (U.S.) Ambassador to Latvia Charles Larson laid flowers by the monument to seamen and fishermen lost at sea.

In his remarks at the monument, Larson honored the memory of 10 U.S. pilots that were lost at sea near Liepaja on April 8, 1950. He emphasized that the United States values any person or country that fights for freedom and democracy, and is ready to give their lives in the name of these values. Larson thanked the Latvian Government for their continued contributions to NATO missions.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the U.S. and Latvian Military as well as the Mayor of Liepaja.
