U.S. Embassy Commemorates September 11 with a Moment of Silence

Riga, September 11, 2007. – The United States Embassy in Latvia observed a moment of silence on September 11, 2007 to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and the hijacking of United Airlines flight 93. Ambassador Catherine Todd Bailey and members of the Embassy community observed a moment of silence at 15:46 p.m in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and of all other innocent victims of terrorism around the globe.

Marking the occasion, Ambassador Bailey issued the following comment, "The sixth anniversary of the attacks of September 11th is a reminder to each of us of the challenge the international community shares in confronting terrorism around the globe. May we never forget the tragedies of that day, nor the acts of terrorism that continue throughout the world today. For Americans and our Allies, including Latvia, September 11 reminds us of the price that has been paid for our freedom."

Flags at the Embassy, and at US Government facilities worldwide, will be flown at half staff in honor of the victims.
