Stuart Seldowitz

DCM Stuart Seldowitz

Stuart M. Seldowitz was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He attended primary and high school there, before graduating from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. with a Bachelors Degree in International Affairs. His degree came with areas of concentration in Middle Eastern Studies and International Economics.

After graduating, Mr. Seldowitz attended Saint John's University School of Law in Queens, New York. He left law school in the middle of his second year to accept an appointment to the United States Foreign Service, Department of State.

Since joining the Foreign Service Mr. Seldowitz has served in Mexico (1982-1984 and 1996-1997), as a State Department Advisor on the U.S. Delegation to the Defense and Space Talks and Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START I) in Geneva (1990-1991), and in the United States Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel (1985-1987). His Washington assignments include tours focusing on Southern Africa, and in the Office of Nuclear and Space Policy.

Mr. Seldowitz served in the United States Mission to the United Nations from 1991 to 1996, where he worked on the conflict in the Balkans, particularly the wars in Bosnia and Croatia. In 1997 he was a Senior Advisor in the office responsible for implementing the Dayton Peace Accords and from 1999 to 2001 he served in the State Department's Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs, the last two years as Deputy Director.

His most recent assignment was as Deputy Director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs. From 2003 to the summer of 2007 he was the Principal Deputy Political Advisor in the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels. During the last year he has been the Political Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to NATO.
