  • USS Oscar Austin visited Riga in display of Latvia-United States cooperation

    The guided-missile destroyer USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79) arrived in Riga, Latvia for a scheduled port visit as part of an ongoing effort by U.S. military forces to strengthen ties with NATO allies and regional partners, while working towards mutual goals of promoting peace and stability in the Baltic region. 

  • Latvia Maintains its Ranking in the U.S. Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report

    This year, Latvia was placed in Tier 2, which is the same ranking as last year. The 2014 Trafficking in Persons Report asserts that the Government of Latvia is making significant efforts to comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking according to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, although it does not yet fully comply with these standards 

  • U.S. Embassy Announces Annual Fulbright Fellowship Program

    Recipients of the Fulbright Foreign Student scholarship will study at a U.S. university for one year, and recipients of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program will conduct research, lecture, or pursue combined lecturing and research in the United States.

    The Humphrey Program provides mid-career Latvians with an opportunity to enhance their professional capabilities through participation in a specialized year of graduate-level, non-degree academic course work, and professional development activities at selected U.S. universities. Programs are individually designed to include course work, independent projects, internships, consultations with U.S. experts, and special seminars.
