  • U.S. Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security to Visit Latvia

    While in Latvia, Under Secretary Gottemoeller will meet with members of Parliament and officials at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Interior to discuss international and regional security, arms control, nonproliferation, NATO, and bilateral security cooperation. She will also tour the Corner House (Stūra Māja).

    While in Latvia, Senator Portman met with senior government officials at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Internal Affairs to discuss NATO issues. Senator Portman also met with local MPs and tour the Adazi military base to discuss security issues and cooperation.

    Chargé d'Affaires Sharon Hudson-Dean participated in the commemoration ceremony in Liepāja to honor the U.S. airmen presumed lost when their aircraft was shot down by Soviet fighter planes on April 8, 1950. During her visit, Chargé d'Affaires Sharon Hudson-Dean participated in several events to recognize the 65th anniversary of the loss of a U.S. Navy aircraft and visited the Latvian Naval Headquarters.
