President Zatlers' Visit to the United States
Latvian President Valdis Zatlers paid a working visit to the U.S. from April 22-25. U.S. Ambassador Charles Larson accompanied President Zatlers during the visit.
The U.S. Plea Bargaining Team in Riga
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce that a legal team from the U.S. will begin a four day working visit to Riga to discuss the concept and procedure of “plea bargaining” and its use in judicial systems. U.S. Ambassador Larson Donates Laptops
On Friday, March 28th, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Charles Larson donated three brand new laptops to Apeirons, a non-governmental organization working with people with disabilities. This donation is part of an ongoing series of joint projects involving the U.S. Embassy and the government of Latvia, including cooperation with Apeirons.
Ambassador Larson Shares Personal Observations From Military Service in Iraq
Ambassador Charles Larson addressed a group of students at the University of Latvia on March 12th on the subject of U.S. Foreign Policy and Iraq. Ambassador Larson shared personal experiences, and photos, from his military service in Iraq. As a major in the U.S. Army Reserves, Ambassador Larson served for a year in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in combat and the Combat Action Badge.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff visits Latvia
On Wednesday, March 12th, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff visited Riga. Secretary Chertoff, signed on behalf of the U.S. Government a Memorandum of Understanding on the United States Visa Waiver Program and Related Enhanced Security Measures.
Ambassador Charles W. Larson visits Rumbula Holocaust Memorial and learns about Jewish history in Latvia
On Monday, March 10, U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Charles W. Larson joined Arkady Suharenko, Chairman of the Council of Latvian Jewish Communities, and Ambassador Gints Jegermanis, Head of Policy Planning at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to visit the Rumbula Holocaust Memorial.
