  • U.S. and Latvian Officials to Jointly Open Reconstructed Kurzeme Regional Dispatch Center in Kuldīga

    The new Dispatch Center is located in the renovated Kuldīga city hospital building and will operate 24-hours per day, serving 262,000 residents of the Kurzeme region. Funding of 991,012.29 USD for the reconstruction was provided by the U.S. European Command’s Civic Engagement Program and implemented by the U.S. Embassy Riga Office of Defense Cooperation.

    President Obama will visit the Republic of Estonia in early September to further enhance the strong relations between the two countries, and to affirm America's commitment to our Baltic allies. The President will also meet with the three Baltic presidents -- President Ilves, President Berzins of Latvia, and President Grybauskaite of Lithuania -- to discuss ongoing cooperation on regional security.

    Recipients of the Fulbright Foreign Student scholarship will study at a U.S. university for one year, and recipients of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program will conduct research, lecture, or pursue combined lecturing and research in the United States.  

  • U.S. Embassy Announces Annual Humphrey Fellowship Program

    The Humphrey Program provides mid-career Latvians with an opportunity to enhance their professional capabilities through participation in a specialized year of graduate-level, non-degree academic course work, and professional development activities at selected U.S. universities. Programs are individually designed to include course work, independent projects, internships, consultations with U.S. experts, and special seminars.

  • The U.S. Department of State has made significant progress and issued most of the delayed visas worldwide. We are working to bring our systems back to full operational capacity.

    We continue to prioritize immigrant visas, adoption cases, and emergency nonimmigrant visa cases.

    Visa applicants are advised to expect delays of up to one week in addition to normal processing times. Please take this into consideration when making travel plans.
